The 3M Xtract (TM) Low Profile Finishing Backing Pad is made of 11/16"" soft density foam with a 15° blunt, tapered edge. Our backing pads are designed for use with a 5"" 3M Hookit disk* for expert finishing of flat or contoured surfaces where dust extraction is not required. *Sold separately" The soft foam of the 3M (TM) Hookit (TM) Low Profile Finishing Disc allows for better conformability. This makes the disc more flexible and gives it a longer life on jobs where clogging occurs. Our 11/16" soft backing pads with a blunt 15° tapered edge are suitable for finishing flat or contoured surfaces where dust extraction is not an issue. The 5/16-24 male threads on our backing pads are compatible with an orbital or random orbital sander, while the Hookit hook-and-loop feature makes it easy to attach, remove and reattach the pad. They also allow the disc to be reused over the entire service life of the abrasive. Our Hookit sanding discs feature J-shaped hooks, which are commonly used for everyday hook and loop fasteners. The backing pads grip the nylon backing of the Hookit discs and provide a finer finish than discs with a self-adhesive backing. The Hookit system is designed for work areas where adhesive backed discs can become contaminated by dust, dirt or airborne particles. These backing pads can also be used with adhesive-backed discs from other manufacturers.
