GESIPA blind rivets ensure a permanently secure joining of various materials, including delicate ones. From a technical perspective, the blind rivet consists of two components: the hollow rivet and the rivet mandrel. Whilst with screwing, clinching and punch riveting etc. the component must always be accessible from both sides, what is truly special about the blind rivet is that access to the component from just one side is required. During the setting process, the rivet mandrel is pulled by the jaws of the setting tool, thereby deforming the hollow rivet until it achieves a predefined, secure fit within the component. Finally, the rivet mandrel breaks off at the designated point, the predetermined breaking point, and the remaining mandrel can be sent for recycling. The remaining mandrel is the part of the rivet mandrel that remains in the hollow rivet and, depending on the application, can serve an additional securing function. A rule of thumb for determining the rivet shank length is: material thickness + rivet shank diameter = rivet shank length. GESIPA blind rivets – terminology: The blind rivet consists of two parts: the hollow rivet and the rivet mandrel. The hollow rivet consists of the setting head and the hollow rivet shank. The setting head is located on the processing side and varies in diameter and shape. It is available in flat-round head, countersunk head and large head variants. The rivet shank is available in various lengths depending on the thickness of the material to be riveted. The rivet mandrel is designed to deform the rivet shank. It contains the predetermined breaking point. This is where the rivet mandrel breaks off once the rivet has been fully deformed. The residual mandrel is the part of the rivet mandrel that remains inside the hollow rivet. The residual mandrel is the part of the rivet mandrel that is broken off from the set rivet using a blind rivet setter.
