Application: This ultrasonic hardness tester is ideal for mobile hardness tests where great importance is attached to fast and precise results; Principle: The SAUTER HO measures by means of a vibrating rod that vibrates at ultrasonic frequency and is pressed onto the sample with a defined test force. A Vickers indenter is located at the lower end. Its resonance frequency increases as soon as it is brought into contact with the sample when the indentation is created. The resulting resonance frequency shift is assigned to the corresponding Vickers hardness by adjusting the device accordingly; examples: The SAUTER HO ultrasonic hardness testing system is primarily used for measuring small forgings, castings, spot welds, punched parts, casting tools, ball bearings and flanks of gears, as well as for measuring after heat or heat influence; advantages over Rockwell and Brinell: virtually non-destructive testing due to smaller test force and therefore only microscopically small indentation craters; advantages over Vickers: the demanding optical measurement is no longer necessary.
